Hidden Hollywood: The C Roy Hunter Collection Now Available

In the 1930s, 40s and 50s C Roy Hunter, the noted inventor, Director of Photography and head of Paramount Studios camera division shot many behind-the-scenes films on sets of the motion pictures whose cinematography he supervised. Oddball Film+Video is now making available this rare and unusual collection of C Roy Hunter's Hidden Hollywood

C Roy Hunter was the inventor of the Hunter-Pierce High Speed Duplicating Machine, an invention that forever changed the course of the motion picture industry by making mass distribution of motion pictures possible. Oddball has silent footage of this rare invention set up an in operation at Universal Studios in Hollywood where he was superintendent of photography for nineteen years.

Hunter was director of photography for a plethora of Hollywood films including Dracula, Frankenstein, The Phantom of the Opera, Showboat, The King of Jazz and many others. His home movie style footage includes silent screen tests and movie scenes featuring James Cagney, Dorothy Lamour, Dick Powell, Ingrid Bergman and other notable screen legends.

The collection also includes classic miniature sets of a forest fire from "The Forest Rangers"(1942), battle scenes from the 1950 war film "Tripole" as well as wave-making and boat-rocking machines, painted sky and cloud backdrops and other revealing special effects of yesteryear.

Hidden Hollywood reveals many behind-the-scenes examples of Hollywood movie making with camera crews and talent, shooting and cast and crew preparing and relaxing during filming of various feature films.
